A Real Break From Studying

So as I mentioned in my last post, the only thing that was really keeping me motivated to get through my week of midterms and papers while being ill with bronchitis was my Fall Break weekend plans. My parents, being so gracious in forgiving me for not going home over that break (I did go home for Family Weekend, so I did get some good ol’ family time in then), gave me the green light to travel to Boston to visit some friends from my boarding school.

Surviving Stress

I never thought I would say (or write) this.

But the fact is…I am addicted. I find myself dreaming about the smell of it, I yearn to just have a drop during the late hours of the night. Just the thought of it motivates me to walk across campus to get some.

The power it has over me is unnerving; and it’s only been a month.

Yes, you may have guessed it already, but I am addicted to Starbucks coffee.

To be more specific, I am addicted to White Chocolate Mochas.

White dresses, Memorable Letters, and Lit Candles

What do all these three things have in common?

Westhampton College Proclamation, that’s what.

A night filled with first-years and seniors, laughter and maybe some tears, memories and nostalgia, all relating to the time for women that has been spent or will be spent on the U of R’s campus.

Hello, Mr. President!

So upon this whirlwind that has been the beginning of my freshman year at Richmond, I am surprised once again.

The President, Barack Obama, was here.

Actually in person.

In Robins Center Arena.

First Class Fails

Yesterday, I had my first, real, no-joke-I’m-actually-in-college class. I woke up, ate breakfast, put on my already picked-out first day of school attire and mentally prepared for beginning of the next four years. After checking and rechecking my bag to make sure I had the right colors of pens and highlighters and that my planner was bookmarked to Day 1 of classes, I left my dorm half an hour early on a trek for the academic building across campus that housed my class. When I got there and looked for a Room 107, I started panicking because I could not find it. I found 101-105, but there didn’t seem to be any other rooms on the floor. After asking the nearby facilities worker where this magical classroom was, I was informed there was definitely no Room 107 in the building.

First Night of College Dorm Life

Most adults describe college as being the “best years of our life”, but it’s hard to imagine these so-called lifelong friends I’ll be having within the first week. I don’t want to be the girl that is trying to be besties with every girl on her floor, or the girl that is too quiet to make conversation to anyone. I want to be me, but how do I get to know anyone? Let me share some experience from my very first night as a University of Richmond Spider to give some ideas as how to make dorm friends fast, but how to also make them last.

I’m currently a sophomore at the University of Richmond and interested in Dance and Sociology. I applied Early Decision to Richmond because it had such a great mix of everything I was looking for academically and holds a deep appreciation for the arts. When I’m at school you can usually find me dancing in Frederick Rehearsal Hall, enjoying my study time in Boatwright Memorial Library, or trying to entertain my roommate with my jokes and facial expressions. Cookies are my favorite food, though macaroni and cheese is a close second. I am a part of the University Dancers for a second year in a row - and I love it! Something interesting about me: a major goal of mine is to be on the ‘Jeopardy’ show.
