This past weekend, my good friend from home came down to visit me after attending the inauguration. He stayed for four days and absolutely loved it here. My friend’s visit refreshed my view of life here on campus. The University and everything that came with it were all new to me last semester. But, after settling down and getting into the groove of things here, I had forgotten about a lot of the things that struck me when I first arrived on campus. I started taking the great resources - such as performances at the Modlin Center for the Arts, the vast movie collection at the library, the great food at the Dining Hall, and the beautiful campus scenery - for granted. However, my friend kept reminding me of how great a place Richmond is to live and go to school. I took him around downtown the first night that he was here and he was impressed by how much there is to do here, which says a lot considering he goes to school in one of the biggest cities. Once on campus, he commented on how accessible everything was to students. He was impressed with the large library, the media resource center, the many computer labs in just about every building, the incredible gym and the wide variety at D-Hall, compared to the cafeteria at his school. Overall, my friend’s visit reminded me of the many reasons why I love Richmond. It’s good to have a fresh perspective once in a while to remind you of what’s good!
