Happy December, everyone! I cannot believe that this is my last week of classes! My first semester of college has gone by way too fast. Even though this is my last week of the semester, I am not at all looking forward to it. I have three papers, two presentations and a test to tackle before I get to relax for a few days, only to gear up again for finals. Yikes!
However, I had a great time over Thanksgiving Break. I didn’t go home for Thanksgiving, but a good friend of mine invited me to spend Thanksgiving with her and her family in New Jersey. This gave me an opportunity for more travels and to explore more of the East Coast. It was wonderful to be able to catch up on sleep and be at home with a family, albeit not my own. And although Richmond’s cafeteria is one of the top-ranked college cafeterias in the nation, home-cooked meals were very much appreciated for change!
The day after Thanksgiving, my friend and I ventured into New York City to experience the busiest city on Black Friday. And indeed, it was quite an experience! I have never seen so many people struggling to purchase so many different things all at once. It almost seemed like shopping has turned into a game of survival of the fittest, where the biggest and bravest consumer won. It was pretty entertaining to witness capitalism at its best. And I’m not going to deny that my friend and I partook in this crazy trend. We adopted our 12 year old personas and charged into the three-story Toys R Us in Times Square. Let me tell you, we got pushed and trampled by seven year olds. After such as experience, we decided that corporate shopping was not for us, so we decided to go shopping at the holiday crafts fair in Bryant Park after a delicious lunch, a long cab ride around Central Park, and a quick run through the Metropolitan Museum (which was also just as crowded as the Toys R Us).
Sadly, our short break has come to an end. My friend and I braced Thanksgiving traffic through an eleven hour car ride back to Richmond yesterday. Now I can officially say that I have experienced East Coast holiday traffic at its worst. And now, I’m back to the grind to finish up my first semester of college! Finals start up next week and I will let you know how they go! Until then!
