Go Spiders!

At 3am this Saturday morning, my friends and I ventured out of the city of Richmond to explore Virginia Beach (a two-hour car ride away from campus). The trip was sponsored by UR’s Intervarsity Club, so there were about 100 Richmond students lying out on VA Beach to watch the sun rise at 5am. I can definitely say that it was a rare site and very cool experience! After watching the sun rise and before heading back to Richmond, my friends and I had breakfast at one of the best pancake houses that we have encountered here in Virginia! We had a good time and were back on campus by 10am – just in time to squeeze in several more hours of sleep before heading off to our first home football game that afternoon. It was my first time attending a college football game and it was exciting to be a part of so much school spirit. Free pizza was served, t-shirts were given out to Richmond students and freshmen who attended the game joined together to form a human tunnel to welcome the football players as they made their grand entrance onto the field.  The stadium was packed with Richmond students and alumni who endlessly cheered on the Spiders through scorching heat to a victory over Towson. The entire afternoon at the game was a huge display of spirit and pride in being a Richmond Spider.

In addition to such an exciting weekend, this week of classes has been pretty eventful, as well. I took my first college exam on Wednesday (Spanish) and am working on my first college essay this weekend (Core class). I also attended a study abroad fair, where representatives from various international schools and programs distribute information to students interested in studying abroad. A major deciding factor for me in choosing to attend the University of Richmond was its exceptional study abroad program, so the fair transformed impressive facts on paper to an even better reality for me. It was exciting to meet with different representatives, learn about the programs that they offer and envision myself at one or more of these places in the near future.

It will take a lot to top off this past week, but hopefully the upcoming week will bring more fun stories. Stay tuned!
