Final Week–signing up for the MCAT.

Usually when you ask a student at this point in the semester a question you’re going to get a lot of groans that resemble Morse code or maybe even the somnambulus sounds of a sleepwalker.  Most students–including yours truly–trade the comforts of our dorm room for the more studious environs of the Library or Gottwald or the electronic super-center that is the Jepson basement.    One of these locations will remain my home until December 15th.

In other news, I reserved my seat for the MCAT exam over Thanksgiving break.  The process was surprisingly easy and now I have a date to count down to.  May 28th.  Ah, May 28th.  SAT doesn’t hold a candle to how I feel about this test.  It’ll be a five-hour super-exam.  The test on that day had two times, 8am and 12pm.  I can’t even imagine getting up early enough to complete the early test–I think I would have to be masochistic to sign up for that one.

To reserve a seat, I first went to aamc.org, which is the website for the Association of American Medical Colleges.  From there, they have links to practically all things medical school including a link to the website where you apply for the actual schools.  Anyway, you just click on the MCAT button to the right of the screen, create an account, and pay the $225 fee.  Why oh why does everything cost money these days?  I’m already putting myself through the torture of a year of preparation and then I’ll sit at a computer screen for five hours and attempt to succeed at all things science.  Then I’ll have to pay close to $200,000 in college costs if I go to medical school.  Woohoo!  It seems like some things should be made cheaper.  Or maybe $225 is cheaper.  Sigh.

My circle of friends is shoving as much “together” time into the remaining few days as it can, and so much fun has ensued.

We went to the outer banks for Thanksgiving break and this is a glowing turtle in a small pond.  Okay, it’s not really glowing–but maybe it is.  And now you’ve been shown a rare photograph of the infamous super glowing turtle!!!

This is from the same trip.  This is a lake packed full of Artic swans, which are two times as big or more as an other white swan you can think of.  :-)

Quote of the week:

“The song maker says, “It ain’t so bad”
The dream maker’s going make you mad
The spaceman says, “Everybody look down!
Its all in your mind!”
