The International Super Social

I’m addicted to International Socials. That’s right! I admitted it! And doing that is half the battle, right? Or maybe not, considering I get a kick out of going to these things. The tight rooms, the loud music (none of which I listen to in everyday life), the people who drink a little and revert to their native tongues so that I cannot understand a word they’re saying. I’m sure it has something to do with the fact that Justin Timberlake does not sing international-worthy music. This time, Justin just rings through the dark halls of the bar over and over and over and over again. Come on, guys. There are other songs to play, other hoppy beats out there. Play some of them for us.

The whole affair—the SuperSocial with the Superhero theme—was held at a place in downtown Richmond called Godfrey’s, a gay/drag joint in a dark part of town with a bunch of great characters working behind the bar. Okay, it probably wasn’t in a dark part of town but I have no directional skills so I couldn’t tell you even if I knew how to get there on my own. Anyway, the entire night played out fantastically. I went as McLovin from Superbad (it has super in the name so it works). The bar owners were so nice and the wall art (I am referring here to the large collages depicting all the drag stars on them) was so eye-catching I enjoyed standing there with a group of girls and smiling at how many of the men looked better than physically-real women.

Yes, I enjoyed every minute of it. Yes, I want to go back. Yes, I can’t wait until the next I-social because I can just have a great time surrounded by a huge group of friends. No weird stuff, no expectations. And this time all of my friends came with me!

Love and peace,

Jordan
