The rebuilding process

Greetings from SpiderVille and welcome to my blog! My name is David and I'm coming to UR straight out of the Steel City-- Pittsburgh, that is. Yes, I'm a Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins fan and I hope you can agree, but, if not, feel free to disregard those preferences and continue to read my blogs so that you can get a feel for who I really am! So, as you can see from my interests, my life essentially revolves around spending time with family and friends, academic pursuits including everyday class and a general desire to learn, playing and watching sports (especially baseball), and relaxing with my cat named Tucker. Okay, the last interest regarding my cat may be a bit of an exaggeration, but I do in fact love the Felis catus species (that's the scientific name for cats, by the way). Anyway, on a more serious note, beyond the myriad of activities available to me here at UR, my primary focus over the next four years will undoubtedly be related to academics and making the most out of my education. I plan on majoring in either Biology or Mathematics and hope to pursue a Pre-Med route that will eventually lead me into the field of orthopedic surgery. This intro is just a preface to what really makes me a unique Spider, but I'm sure my blogs will do a much better job of elaborating on that point, so please check them out!

Why UR?

I know what you’re thinking: there are so many colleges out there claiming they have this, that, and the other, so what is it about Richmond that sets it apart from the multitude of other great schools across the country? And why would I want to go to a school with the team name Spiders? Well, before I more directly address those questions, I first think it's important to note that, because there are many great academic institutions vying for the high school senior’s application and commitment, it’s a combination of many seemingly small factors that all combine in order to mold the environment of a particular school and set it apart from the pack. Here at Richmond, it’s the small class sizes, the extremely intelligent professors (look up professors in your department of interest and check out the prestigious colleges at which they studied), the warm, southern environment/hospitality, and the beautiful 350-acre campus centered around the stunning Westhampton Lake. It’s the breathtaking red-brick architecture, the newly renovated facilities, and the academic advisors who take a true interest in seeing the success of their students. It didn’t take me long to put my finger on what exactly it is about Richmond that sets this school apart from the others I was considering, and those natural inhibitions eventually led me to call UR my new home. It’s the little things. It’s the unique aspects; it’s the Spiders.
