My Room

Now that I’ve had a chance to settle in, I’d like to show you what my room is like. Lakeview contains five Living and Learning programs. In each program, the students all live on the same hallway and take the same class during the fall semester. They also participate in events outside of class and try to explore their field outside the realm of the classroom, whether it be trips to Washington D.C., service projects, or some other activity. Enjoy checking out where I’ll be living for the next year!

The main floor has a classroom that most of the Living and Learning programs use for class. So, a student can roll out of bed, go downstairs and attend class if they choose. It’s also used for studying a lot… as well as some students who like to hook up their X-Box or Rock Band set to the projector and have some fun.

On the main floor, there is also a computer lab with several computers and a printer. In addition, there’s a group study room with whiteboards and comfy chairs. Finally, there is a kitchen with a full stove, refrigerator, and sink. Right now, they only allow the professors to use them for program events, but we’re working on allowing all the students to be able to use it whenever they so desire.

Each floor has a common lounge with a nice, flat screen TV. These lounges are really nice and a lot of students use them for studying or socializing. They are right in the middle of the hall and separate the two programs’ wings on each floor, so it provides for a lot of interactions. My wing, Campaigns 2008, shares it with the Civic Engagement program. The other programs are Spanish in the Community, Literature and the Arts, and Earth Lodge. Some events that are hosted by the Living and Learning programs are also held here in the lounges. My Campaigns 2008 program watched Senator Warner’s speech here during the Democratic National Convention.

Now, onto my room. I room with another guy in the program and I suite with my two good friends, Andrew and Caleb. It is so hard to explain the set-up of our room that I’ll let the video show you. Under my bed, I store the refrigerator, microwave, food, and a whole bunch of storage. As you can see, my desk is also under my bed. I have strange study habits, so I end up doing all my work sitting in my bed or futon or in the lounge or study room. There’s plenty of space and I’m hoping to start having events in my room soon.
