The Madness has Begun

It’s officially spring now and it feels like it. The weather has been fantastic lately and it’s warm and sunny. For once, I believe I can say that this week has not been very busy according to my schedule, but it sure has felt busy. I did not have classes on Tuesday or Thursday since my teacher is out of state at a conference. We still had readings to do and a movie to watch, but it was nice to have a free day. Also, I only had one day of Macroeconomics since Monday and Wednesday were scheduled for the Midterm, yet I had taken it before Spring Break. I still had Calculus 2, CORE, and Sculpture, though. My present sculpture is a sitar made with clay skulls. It looks pretty cool. Math is being a pain right now, though, and it’s a lot of new and challenging material. I just hope that I’m ready for everything by the test next week.

Campus has begun to look like spring. My dorm has a bunch of flowers outside.

The main things that I did this week, though, dealt with Admissions work. Prospective scholars came to visit campus this week and, since I am one, I hosted a prospective for Tuesday through Thursday. My roommate also hosted one, so there were four of us living in one room. I gave them tours, answered any questions, and helped them to get to where they needed to be for their interviews and socials. I also was able to meet the potential Oldham scholars for next year and find out more about them, since we’ll be hanging out next year. They are an amazing group of individuals and I’m excited for them to come here next year. I served as a panelist for a Q&A Session and also attended the ice cream social and Oldham get-together with them. There were some pretty fun times. Also, with Admissions, I gave two tours this week.

Of course, this is March and there is March Madness. I’ve filled out five brackets and am doing reasonable well right now. Even though we had a good year, Richmond did not get in. Wisconsin is the team I’m rooting for. I’ve watched them win the Big Ten Championship and their first round game this week. Let’s hope they continue to win. My Cabinet and I are partnering with the RA staff here for March madness event. We’re sponsoring bracket challenges with $200 in prizes as well as throwing a Championship Game party with pizza, chips, soda, and door prizes. However, coordinating all of this was chaotic earlier in the week. Now, though, it’s all good.

I should also mention that I am now joining another group… sort of. I’m joining Phi Eta Sigma which is a nationwide freshman Honor Society. I was chosen by the administration to be eligible to join, but I won’t do much with it. However, I guess it doesn’t hurt to join.

That’s all for this week. I’m hoping to have a semi-relaxing weekend, but do have some homework to take care of still.
