Spring-ing

So, it’s 12:30 on Sunday morning (as in the actual morning that most people consider Saturday night) and I’m sitting at my desk, munching on cheese cubes and staring blankly at my desk lamp. I remember everything about the day I bought it. I remember sliding it into a milk crate between bars of soap and an umbrella. I had to bend the neck backwards so the thing would fit properly. I remember putting it in my room, screwing in the light bulb and clicking the switch a few times to make sure it worked. There’s only one more Saturday between now and the day I drive it back home for the summer. I’ve got one Saturday left in my freshman year of college. Reality is approaching at a much swifter pace than I had originally anticipated. I’ve decided to use this opportunity for semi-serious life reflection to procrastinate and act ridiculous.

Pretending to be ninjas…of course.

I had my last Core class this past Thursday. To celebrate, Sarah and I drove down by the river and had yet another picnic. Lots of girls from UR have been scurrying across the rocks in their itty-bitty bikinis to tan, but we were unable to participate in such exciting activities for two reasons. First, the river was incredibly high and there wasn’t a bare rock to be found. Second, I’m pale as Casper and would burn within fifteen minutes. We were forced to take an excessive number of pictures of ourselves exploring the various trails near the water. A number of the trees featured hanging vines, which we swung from dramatically despite confused looks from older men and women walking their dogs.Over the past week or two, the beautiful weather has inspired more than the random river expedition.

Yay River Expedition!!

I’ve spent at least an hour of almost every day on the hill in front of the library, enjoying the sun and stopping to converse with random groups of people who walked by. Last Saturday, a group of us went out to lunch and “did homework” for five straight hours. By that I mean we talked and individually fell asleep at random intervals. It was fantastic and I enjoyed the smell of sun-baked, fresh-cut grass hovering in the air.

Here it goes – the last week of freshman year! May 1st day is rapidly approaching and all of you have an important decision to make (I’m sure you appreciate the reminder), so good luck!
