Hello to all! It is your prodigal correspondent, back from electronic exile. I apologize to all my readers for the infrequency of my posts during my first semester. It was obviously a pretty hectic time for me. I had a lot of, uhh…, studying to get done.
Speaking of which, my second semester is going to be a tough one. Still lamenting the destruction of the Tower of Babel, I am once more wrestling with the Spanish language, this time in a 221 course. I enjoy the professor and my classmates, but alas that doesn’t determine my grade in the class. I’d really like to slay the dragon that is the language General Education requirement during my freshmen year. (Moral of the story for you prospective students: Take and pass an AP language test in high school; you’ll thank yourself at college.)
Core class is, well, Core class- not much to be said there… However, I really enjoy my History 100 course on the Spanish-American War and the Philippines insurgency. It’s a welcome academic break amidst the other classes I have to contend with, and provides me with a welcome chance to nerd out. (Yes, I just used that phrase. And no, I didn’t get asked to any of my middle school dances.)Â
I’ve found that a useful strategy when selecting classes each semester is to provide yourself with one class that’s a bit of a breather for you; i.e. a class on an area that you’re really comfortable with. This gives you a credit or two and can provide a welcome self-esteem booster after a day full of Business Statistics or Calculus. (Or, say, Spanish…)
Alright readers, I set my quill aside for now. It’s a Thursday evening, and I have a lot of studying to take care of. (For a second there you thought I was ending my post on a serious note, didn’t you?)
